Services Terms

How we work together.

The terms for editing, editor sessions, design and production.

Last updated November 3, 2026.

These terms are an agreement between you and Hurkle Durkles, LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company doing business as H.D. Publishing ("we"). They cover the editing, editor sessions, design, production and programs we sell. You agree to them when you tick the box accepting them at checkout or when booking, or when you accept a written quote. You must be 18 or older, or have a parent or guardian agree to these terms for you. Our Terms of service and Privacy policy also apply; if they conflict, these Services Terms win for services.

1. Quotes and scope

Editing is priced by word count and design work at flat prices, as listed on our Services page. Before any edit or design job starts, we send a written quote naming the service, the price, what you receive and the turnaround. If your manuscript's length or the work you want changes, we send a revised quote, and nothing extra is done until you approve it in writing. Ghostwriting and the New Year. New Book. challenge are covered by their own written agreement.

Per-word prices use the word count of the manuscript you send us, counted by us. If it differs from the count you gave by more than 5%, we send a revised quote before starting, and you can accept it or cancel for a full refund. If you ordered and paid online and the book turns out to need different work than you ordered (for example, more than 120,000 words, images or tables), we send a revised quote, and you can accept it or cancel for a full refund. Each quote says how many rounds of changes are included; extra rounds are quoted the same way.

2. Paying

  • Editor sessions are paid in full when you book.
  • Jobs under $400 are paid in full when the work starts.
  • Jobs of $400 and over: half to start, half on delivery. Final files are sent once the balance is paid.
  • Prices are in US dollars. Sales tax is added where the law requires it.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
  • The balance is due within 14 days after we tell you the work is ready. We send final files once it is paid.
  • If a payment fails or is reversed, work pauses until it is paid.
  • If you have a problem with a charge, contact us first; we will put it right or refund what is owed. A chargeback for a service we delivered may pause any further work for you.

3. Editor sessions

  • A session is 60 minutes by video or phone, at the time you book.
  • Reschedule or cancel up to 2 business days before the start for a full refund.
  • Later cancellations and missed sessions are not refunded. If you join late, the session still ends at its booked time.
  • If we have to cancel, you choose a full refund or a new time.

4. Turnaround and delivery

Your quote gives a delivery date. If we will miss it, we tell you as soon as we know, with a new date. If the delay is more than 14 days and you would rather not wait, we refund the payment for any work not yet delivered.

5. Stopping

You can stop after any stage. You pay for the stages finished, and we refund money paid for work not yet started. A stage already under way is charged for the part completed, which we explain in writing. We may decline or stop a job that would break the law or these terms; if we do, we refund anything not yet earned.

6. Your work stays yours

  • You keep all rights, including copyright, in your manuscript, your notes and everything we edit for you.
  • You give us permission to copy and work on your files only to do the job you paid for. That permission ends when the job ends.
  • We do not publish, sell, share or claim any part of your work. Publishing it is a separate agreement you would sign.
  • Your manuscript is confidential. Only the people working on your job see it, and our editors agree in writing to keep it confidential. We share it only if you ask us to or the law requires it.
  • We delete your files 90 days after a job ends unless you ask us to keep them. Files you publish stay in your own account with the store or printer you publish through.

Designs we make for you. Once paid in full, you own the final cover and interior designs we make for your book, except stock images and fonts, which are licensed to you under their own terms for use with your book. We may show your published cover in our portfolio unless you ask us not to.

7. Editors

Some of our editors are independent contractors. We stay responsible to you for their work under these terms.

8. AI tools

People do the editing. Your work is never used to train an AI model. If you use the AI assistant in Bōcere yourself, Bōcere's own terms on bocere.app apply.

9. What editing does and doesn't promise

We edit to a professional standard, but no edit catches every error, and we cannot promise an agent, a publisher, sales, reviews or awards. Unless your quote says so, a service does not include fact-checking, legal review, sensitivity reading or permissions for quoted material.

10. Your promises

You promise that you have the right to send us the work, and that it does not break the law or anyone else's rights. You are responsible for what you publish, including what you say about real people. If you are writing about real people, consider a legal review before publishing. If someone makes a claim against us because of content you supplied, you are responsible for it.

11. Limits on our responsibility

To the extent the law allows, our total responsibility for any claim about a service is limited to the amount you paid us for that service, and neither of us is responsible to the other for lost profits or other indirect losses. This does not limit responsibility for fraud, gross negligence or intentional wrongdoing, or any right you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived. Please keep your own copy of everything you send us; we are not responsible for the loss of a file you did not keep a copy of.

12. Problems and disputes

If something goes wrong, write to us first and we will try to put it right within 30 days. These terms are governed by Washington law, and any court case will be in Laramie County, Wyoming, or in small claims court in the county where you live, unless the law gives you a different choice.

13. Changes and contact

We may update these terms. The version in force when you book or accept a quote applies to that job. Questions about these terms or a problem with a service: support@hdpublishing.org. Anything else: hello@hdpublishing.org.

14. The rest

If your written quote says something different from these terms, the quote applies to that job. If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
